Wi-Charge Technology: Live Wirelessly

Last year GSMA Intelligence confirmed that globally, over 5 billion people have a mobile connection. That is equivalent to over 2/3 of the population, which just goes to show how much the mobile technology industry has grown since its inception. Needless to say, the world has never been so reliant on power outlets. We are constantly living in fear of a dead battery.

We carry around power banks and extra chargers so that we can avoid ever having a dead phone, but with greater reliance on our phones and electronics comes greater technological advances. Enter Wi-Charge.

Imagine a world where your local cafe not only serves you your much-needed coffee, but leaves you with a full charge as well? That is the world Wi-Charge is trying to create.

Wi-Charge is powered by focused beams of infrared light, similar to Li-Fi, connecting to a power source and transmitting to nearby devices. The power source is typically placed on the ceiling since it is the best angle for reaching the most devices. The transmitter sends the infrared beams to receivers, found in devices like smartphones, and convert the light beams to electricity.

You may have already seen forms of wireless charging, like Qi pads, but the key difference here is distance. While Qi pads can charge wirelessly, the device must be placed directly on the pad, whereas Wi-Charge allows for multiple devices to charge at a much greater distance.
